On my list of: Simple Gold Hoops

My mother wore loads of jewellery. Bright, colourful pieces that complimented her already exceptional style. Some from her travels and some from random trinket booths at shopping malls. She had great taste in pairing colours and textures. While I probably never inherited her love for bold and beautiful colours, I definitely did steal a couple of tips and tricks for picking jewellery.

I think the one thing about me that has stayed constant is my love for gold jewellery. I did, after all, start this blog by naming it “Accents of Gold” for those who have followed me from that era. These days, while my wardrobe transforms from Summer to Autumn (officially, as of today!), My favourite pieces remain the same.

My favourite, of course, will always be Daphine’s Oli Hoops, modelled after their signature Oli ring. I don’t think I’m ever without it. I also have a pair of super simple mid-sized gold hoops I picked up from a street stall in Brighton that has, till this day, the most compliments. I think most of us have had enough with gold jewellery losing their shine over time, or worse — turning their ears or fingers green. I’ve stopped buying fast-fashion earrings for this exact reason and I’ve grown to have a different type of relationship with my jewellery. I explored this, and the general relationship between people and clothing items through Taste Journal, my final major project in university.

Jewellery has inherently become a significant part of our identity creation. Whether it’s just a small pair of hoops or stacks and stacks of rings on my fingers, they make me feel more me; It has become like second skin. There’s just something so special about the story behind different pieces and even the process that goes into making them. The Phine piece, for example, is handmade per order in their Hackney studio from recycled sterling silver and literally, made just for you.

And I know… Some of the price tags that come with these beautiful pieces may be a bit out of your budget but I assure you, they’ll definitely be worn to death. I know I have! I also rather invest in pieces that’ll last me forever than them ending up in a landfill.
